Ba Ba Black Sheep
This incident took place on the River Nene near Peterborough. It was a bright, sunny day, a condition that, surprisingly, isn’t very good for fishing. We arrived early and the anglers were setting up in their elected pegs.
Keith and Harold, who were both good for a laugh, noticed on the opposite bank a few sheep had gathered and, as they are inquisitive creatures, they were standing looking at them. There were a few minutes before we started our match so Keith looked across at the sheep and said “Ba Ba” and one of the sheep replied “Ba Ba”. This response caused all those around to start laughing. “Ba Ba Ba” the sheep kept calling. By the time the rest of us realised what was happening other sheep had gathered on the bank forming a flock of about 50 sheep.
“Let’s give them a Ba Ba Black Sheep” Keith said. And that’s exactly what they did. Ba Ba Ba! Ba Ba Ba! And as a whole unit the sheep started to mimic them in time.
Everyone was in stitches with laughter with Keith and Harold trying to Ba Ba and not laugh with the sheep keeping the chorus of bleating going.
The match started 10 minutes late but no one bothered, the memory of those sheep singing and Keith and Harold serenading was a treasure I will always remember.
George won the match again. We just can’t beat him.
